This business at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach has closed after nine years
The laughter has died at Carolina Comedy Club.
The club in The Avenue section of Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach has shut down, according to a message on the business’ website and general manager Leslie Blackmon’s Facebook page.
Blackmon posted on her Facebook page Tuesday afternoon that the club has permanently closed after being open for nine years, including the last 2 1/2 years under the ownership of Freddie Rick.
Blackmon posted: “Sad to say the rumors are true. The Carolina Comedy Club is now CLOSED PERMANENTLY. I will miss the little family we built. I’m happy and humbled for my experiences there and looking forward to what the future holds for me.”
The club’s final show was apparently Sunday featuring headliner Matt Fernandez, who has been on Comedy Central, NBC and HBO, and feature comedian Jojo Casillas.
Blackmon did not respond to requests for more information and neither Rick nor Broadway property owner Burroughs & Chapin Co., responded as of late Tuesday afternoon to inquiries about the future of the business space.
Rick, who also owns the Helicopter Adventures business in Myrtle Beach, said in the summer of 2019 that he had a long-term lease for the space that would take him into retirement.
Rick, a Myrtle Beach businessman, purchased the Carolina Comedy Club business in May 2019.
The theater featured appearances by national touring comedians including Jon Reep, as well as The Magic of Carl Michael show for seven summers. The website listed performers through Feb. 20.
Carolina Comedy Club was one of two primary comedy venues in Myrtle Beach, along with the area’s enduring 26-year comedy club, the Comedy Cabana.
