Two business buildings torn down on north side of Conway. What’s being built?

Construction for two new fast food restaurants began on S.C. 501 near Conway High.

The former RoadRunner Antiques and Scooter’s Vape Shop buildings, located at 2197 Church St., were torn down to make way for Slim Chickens and Firehouse Subs, according to Eagle Development Group plans. It’s unclear when construction began, but both buildings were gone and multiple heavy equipment trucks were present.

RoadRunner Antiques owner Fred Falconbury said the property owners let him know about two years ago that the land had been sold to a developer who planned to bulldoze the structures for something new.

Falconbury said the Eagle Development Group specializes in buying land, building a business, getting it started and then selling the business. They did so with the other Slim Chickens in Carolina Forest, which was put up for sale less than a year after opening, The Sun News reported.

Eagle Development Group did not respond to a request to comment prior to publication.

It is unclear when Slim Chickens and Firehouse Subs will open. Slim Chickens is a Southern fried chicken chain, selling sandwiches, chicken and waffles and macaroni and cheese bowls. Firehouse Subs serves sandwiches while also donating to firefighters.
