This Carolina Forest bar and restaurant has opened a second location in Myrtle Beach
The owners of Doesn’t Matter Bar & Grill have opened a second location on the Grand Strand, and they’re considering a third, following the popularity of the original Carolina Forest location over the past four years.
Partners James Rymph and Bronson Mutter opened the new restaurant on Oleander Drive on the corner of U.S. 17 North and 38th Ave. North between Zaxby’s and Dickey’s Barbecue Pit.
“We take pride in great food, great service and an enjoyable atmosphere, so we have those three elements that we brought over here,” Rymph said. “We’ve been fortunate enough to have a good amount of success to try to replicate it in a different market not too far away.”
The new location had an initial setback. It opened on Feb. 4 but closed a few days later due to a gas leak, then reopened on March 11.
While both Doesn’t Matter restaurants share similarities, there are a few differences between them.
Slow-cooked meats at the new location include corned beef, pot roast, prime rib that is shaved for french dip sandwiches, and beef, lamb and chicken for gyros. But the restaurant doesn’t serve barbecue brisket or pork; the lease forbids it because of its proximity to Dickey’s.
The new location also features 10 draft beers that are brewed in the Carolinas. Rymph said the business will always feature at least one beer from each of the local brewers: Grand Strand Brewing Co., Crooked Hammock, New South and Tidal Creek. It has also partnered with Cape Fear Distillery of Wilmington, N.C., to provide a line of liquors.
“We’re definitely expanding into the craft beers and craft liquors,” Rymph said. “We do super local with the four breweries we partner up with, then we do relatively local with North Carolina and South Carolina.”
Appetizers include wings, steamed or Buffalo shrimp, potato skins, egg rolls, pizza, pretzels and dips, and fried cheese, banana peppers, green tomatoes and pickles.
Soups include french onion and chili, and there are several salad options. Eight burger options include turkey, black bean and a lamb mix. There are five wrap options. More than a dozen sandwiches include an open-faced pot roast, fried pork tenderloin, reuben, turkey Reuben, grilled cheese and fried green tomato BLT.
Entrees include grilled pork tenderloin medallions, crab cakes, fried seafood platter and grilled salmon.
Rymph said dips and dressings are house made. Both locations are available for catering.
“We try to do all of our food in-house and scratch-made,” Rymph said. “Our menu is second to none.”
Doesn’t Matter has several televisions and a 120-inch screen behind the bar for sports fans. It will also feature live music every Friday and Saturday night, with predominantly acoustic and two- and three-piece acts, and trivia on Mondays.
There is a daily $5 drink and a daily $8.99 sandwich and side.
The original location opened in December 2017 near Kroger in The Plaza at Carolina Forest off Renee Drive. Rymph said he and Mutter are considering a third location either on the north or south end of the Strand, and possibly a food truck.
“We’re looking to possibly expand even further, grab a third location if the right location presents itself,” said Rymph, a New York native who graduated from Carolina Forest High and Coastal Carolina University, where he earned a Masters of Business Administration.
“We’re just continuing to grow and do things the right way,” Rymph said. “Having Carolina Forest and having something right in the city limits is a good start, and we’re trying to get bigger and bigger.”
