It was Hurricane Maggie’s. What’s next for the Myrtle Beach spot on North Kings Highway
Vincenzo ‘Vinny’ Panzarino moved to Myrtle Beach about two years ago and immediately missed something that he was partial to in New York City.
Believing the options for pizza by the slice are too limited in the area, Panzarino is going to open a restaurant in Myrtle Beach that features it, and he also plans to have his own delivery drivers.
“I feel there are a lot of people from the North moving down here, and I think we miss that New York-style pizza,” Panzarino said. “When I came down here I felt something was missing.”
Panzarino has taken over the space that was previously Hurricane Maggie’s Bar and Grill at 7710 North Kings Highway and is in the midst of renovations. “I like the location. To me it’s in the middle of everything,” said Panzarino, who has an office in a nearby building space.
“People are on the run. I feel that’s missing here for people like me who are always on the run,” Panzarino said. “I don’t have time to sit down and have a full meal. Plus, I want to be somewhat different.”
He hopes to open Vincenzo’s Pizzeria Bar in the spring. The pizza options will include regular pies, Sicilian and pinsa Romana, which is a version of classic Neapolitan pizza that is healthier with a lighter and airier crust and is sort of a mix between pizza and focaccia bread.
“It will be stuff you don’t see when you go to a regular pizzeria down here,” Panzarino said.
Panzarino wants to offer his own delivery in part for the trust of his customers, who won’t have to use food delivery services such as DoorDash, GrubHub and Uber Eats, and for accountability for the quality and condition of the delivered product.
“You don’t know who is delivering your stuff, especially now with the COVID and everything,” Panzarino said. “. . . I got delivery a few times and the pizza was sideways.”
The building is two floors and Panzarino plans to have pizza by the slice on the bottom floor and a lounge/banquet room on the top floor that will have a brick oven. He plans to use the space for groups and parties at first before transitioning to a public opening with happy hour specials and live entertainment at times.
“Once the pizzeria closes on the bottom the upstairs will be for happy hour and after hours. It will be like two places,” Panzarino said.
Panzarino is a developer who owns Panzcorp Development, which is building custom homes in the Members Club area of Grande Dunes and plans to be involved in a Myrtle Beach commercial development in the near future.
He said he has previous restaurant experience with an eatery in the Caribbean.
Michael’s Pizza Pasta & Grill in Myrtle Beach, Scotto’s Pizzeria in Carolina Forest, and Ducatis (for lunch) are among the area restaurants that serve pizza by the slice.
