Flagship store in Coastal Grand Mall hasn’t paid rent during COVID-19 pandemic, suit says
An anchor store in Coastal Grand Mall hasn’t paid rent in months — at a time when many stores were forced to close during the coronavirus pandemic — according to a lawsuit.
The Coastal Grand Mall filed paperwork in Horry County court last week that stated Bed, Bath & Beyond owes about $72,000 worth of rent. The store has not paid rent in April, May or June, according to court paperwork.
Officials from Bed, Bath & Beyond did not respond in time for this report.
The Bed Bath & Beyond store is one of the largest at the Myrtle Beach mall along U.S. 17 Bypass. The store occupies more than 25,000 square feet.
Bed, Bath and Beyond, along with most of the mall, was shuttered for some of the spring after Gov. Henry McMaster ordered non-essential businesses to close. In April, a financial analyst group noted the Coastal Grand Mall had its loan classification switched over and fears the mall might not make payments on its $100 million loan.
There were concerns about the mall making revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic.
