A new restaurant promising authentic Peruvian flavors is opening soon in North Myrtle Beach.

Taste of Peru will serve Peruvian dishes like chicharron de pescado, an appetizer of fried fish chunks; jalea, a seafood platter served with fried yucca; and ají de gallina, an entrée featuring shredded chicken served in a creamy yellow pepper sauce with white rice and potatoes.

The restaurant’s standout dish, which has earned its own section on Taste of Peru’s menu, is pollo a la brasa — a blackened, charcoal-roasted chicken served with various side dishes.

Taste of Peru will open soon at 250 Highway 17 North, replacing Tokyo Express in the space near Lowe’s and ALDI.

Tokyo Express makes way for Taste of Peru

Karen Chuton took over Tokyo Express earlier this year, bringing new management to the restaurant after it had been open for several years.

Just a few months into its run under a new owner, Tokyo Express recently closed to make way for Chuton’s transformation of the space into Taste of Peru.

While an official opening date has not yet been announced for Taste of Peru, the restaurant wrote on Facebook that it expects to open in the next few weeks.

Taste of Peru will be open daily serving lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to the restaurant’s Facebook account.
