With a number of nightclubs in the Myrtle Beach area closing or changing their themes over the past few years, MIke Kap saw an emerging need in area nightlife.

So Kap and his partner in the Masters Gentleman’s Club have opened what he describes as an upscale lounge and nightclub called Hideaway in the middle of three rooms in the building that houses the strip club on Mr. Joe White Ave.

Hideaway had a grand opening on March 11.

“That’s definitely why we did it. We saw there’s a big need for it when all the clubs shut down over COVID,” Kap said. “. . . We saw the need for something like that so we’re kicking it off and seeing how we can do with it.

“. . . It’s a great space. It’s has a nice lounge feel where it’s not overwhelming.”

Team Zombie Mode DJs are featured on Fridays and Saturdays, and Energy 92.1 FM has live remotes in the club on Saturdays.

“We thought it was the right time to open something back up in Myrtle that was more like a lounge that played a good mix of 70s, 80s, 90s and today’s hits,” Kap said. “We’re playing old school meets new school.”

Hideaway has an elevated and lighted dance floor; chairs, couches and tables on the lower level. Upstairs, there’s a VIP area with leather couches and tables.

A high-end sound and light system plays the music videos of the song that’s playing on TVs throughout the club.

“It’s a great vibe where you can see your favorite old-school videos playing while you’re up on the dance floor,” Kap said.

Erik Holian has been hired as the general manager. He was previously at the Oz and Malibu’s Surf Bar clubs in Broadway at the Beach, and was most recently at Klockers Tavern.

The club has limited hours for now. It is open from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, and food is available during operating hours. Kap said the hours could expand.

The room is available to rent for all types of parties.

“Because the room is just so comfortable and it’s not overwhelming, if you put 50 or 60 people in there it’s a great vibe,” he said.

Kap said he is considering additional alternate uses for the space.

“We’re keeping it simple (to start). We’ll keep it like that for now,” he said. “I’d love to expand, of course. I wouldn’t mind doing some comedy shows eventually, I wouldn’t mind doing some acousticals. The room is very versatile.”

Kap said entertainers from the Masters club will not be in Hideaway.

“It’s exclusive. I didn’t want Hideaway and the Masters mixing and matching,” he said.

The room that houses Hideaway has been a few uses over the years, including a hookah lounge several years ago. It has also recently been hosting the Muscle Men Male Review on weekends.
