New cottages will be built in North Myrtle Beach’s Barefoot Resort. What to know
North Myrtle Beach City Council gave final approval to allow more cottages to be constructed for an area previously designated as commercial space in Barefoot Resort.
Council agreed last Monday to vote on the changes to the Barefoot PDD, which will allow up to 92 cottages to replace almost 40,000 feet of commercial space, My Horry News reported.
The entire 40,000 feet of space won’t be used for the expansion of the Sea Glass homes because one commercial building has already been constructed.
Mayor Marilyn Hatley did not vote on the matter due to a conflict of interest. Her son works as a consultant for the property owner.
Lease terms for the cottages start at six months.
There will also be a swimming pool and a $350,000 traffic light installed at the intersection of Barefoot Resort Bridge Road and Village Crossing Boulevard. The city will pay $150,000 of that expense and developers will take care of the remaining amount.
