THE LOWDOWN

The smell of delicious seafood, combined with a friendly atmosphere, is enough to make customers want to pull up a chair at the Pawleys Island Raw Bar Crab and Seafood Shack.

The business is in a very convenient location on U.S. 17 in Pawleys Island.

The business has a very attractive, nautical theme.

Signs advertising the specials are located above the dining room, with chalk letters spelling out exactly what treat is available for that day.

The wine list includes Kings Ridge and Canyon Road, as well as Bliss Vineyards.

The menu has everything from bangin’ shrimp to Apalachicola oysters, Little Rock clams and Blue Point oysters. There is also a chance to sample the shecrab soup, Manhattan clam chowder, grouper bites or a fried creek shrimp po’ boy.

The catch of the day is sold at a market price, with fish fresh off the local docks.

Lunch specials include shrimp and grits, shrimp salad and the highly favored tuna club sandwich.

The bar and seafood shack has a wide bank of large-screen televisions, with sports games always available for viewing.

“We do every major sporting event,” said manger Brooks Scharf.

There is live music every Friday night, from 6 to 10 p.m., except for football season, he said.

A chance to watch football comes with a special invitation on Sundays. The business serves a “great beer” from Charleston, Pluff Mud Porter, Scharf said. There is also Green Man, from Asheville, N.C., and New South out of Myrtle Beach.

TIPS

A screened-in porch can be reserved for special events, for parties of 40 to 50 people.

The sound is turned up for Thursday night sporting events, so everyone can enjoy watching and hearing the game.

The NFL Sunday ticket features a chance to build your own Bloody Mary, Scharf said.

The bar and grill is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.

Happy hour is from 4 to 7 p.m., seven days a week. Specials include $2.50 off domestic bottles of beer, $2.50 off house liquor and $1 off house wines.
