Beauty Inside & Out | Think Dirty!
Ever wonder what’s in your makeup?
Well, you probably should. Your skin is your body’s largest organ, so what you put on your body is just as important as what you put in it.
Most people recognize the leaping bunny or cruelty-free symbol that appears on the back of beauty products, but just because something is cruelty-free or contains no animal ingredients doesn’t mean it’s non-toxic or non-carcinogenic.
That’s where Think Dirty comes in.
Think Dirty is an app available for iPhone and Android that enables users to scan or search for beauty products, or to check to see if their bathroom shelf is filled with toxins.
There are three categories each product is graded on:
▪ carcinogenicity
▪ developmental and reproductive toxicity
▪ allergies and immunotoxicities
The products are rated from clean to dirty, with 0 being the cleanest score and 10 being the dirtiest.
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, a product many dermatologists recommend for people with sensitive skin and a recipient of Good Housekeeping’s seal of approval, has a level 10 toxicity. This is a shocker for many who swear by this cleanser, like your humble blogger, but Think Dirty has that covered.
Under the “You May Also <3” tab, similar products are recommended, and there’s even an option to buy right from the app.
So, download and get to scanning!
