THE LOWDOWN

Calda’s Coal Fire Pizza and Sports Bar is a mouthful to say, and since finding a home in the heart of Myrtle Beach last May, they’re out to fill your mouth with treats.

It’s in a strip mall, so the interior is a pleasant surprise. It’s a double threat, combining a coal fire oven pizzeria with a classy sports bar. The bar is front and center, and the pizza/oven station anchors the joint.

Though the doors have only been open for two months, customers are already naming their favorite menu items and flocking in for the pizza, meatballs and lasagna. There has also been talk of expanding into the neighboring unit by the end of the year – spreading out for additional seating, pool tables and more TVs. Clearly, the neighborhood was looking for a good pizza joint to catch a drink.

Happy hours run from 4 to 8 p.m. There’s no food on the specials, but it’s quite a rundown of drinks. Dip into well liquors for $2.75. Jager Bombs drop for $3.75. Light it up with Fireball shots for two bucks. Domestic drafts are $2.25. Import drafts range from $2.50 to $3, and the Guinness pours for $3.75.

They also offer a pretty great lunch special from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. when you can get a personal pizza with a 16-ounce fountain drink for six bucks.

TIPS

If you have the time, go in for the lunch special, get a foundation laid down, then stay for happy hour and let the pizza soak up the fireball and Guinness. Hours of operation are 11:30 a.m. to late night, Monday through Saturday, and 3 p.m. to late night on Sunday.
