Two pedestrians struck in hit-and-run on U.S. 501, one killed

Two pedestrians were struck early Friday morning on U.S. 501 in a hit-and-run, and one of them was killed in the crash, according to authorities.

The crash happened on U.S. 501 about 3 a.m., said Lance Cpl. Judd Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Cpl. Sonny Collins with the SCHP said the deadly wreck happened on U.S. 501 in the area of Waccamaw Drive in Conway.

The driver involved was traveling south on U.S. 501 when they hit two people in the roadway then fled the scene, Jones said.

A female pedestrian was injured and taken to the hospital withe minor injuries, and the other was fatality wounded in the crash, according to Jones, who said the vehicle and driver are unknown.

The SCHP Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team continues to investigate the crash.
