Ex-boyfriend of MTV ‘Teen Mom’ gives police false information, gets a trip to jail
The former boyfriend of an MTV “Teen Mom” was arrested Monday by Horry County police after Myrtle Beach police announced he was wanted in connection with a domestic violence incident.
Nathan Joseph Griffith, 29, former boyfriend of Jenelle Evans, was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center Monday afternoon on open container and giving false information to law enforcement charges, jail records show.
Myrtle Beach police announced Monday that a warrant had been issued in connection with his arrest after he allegedly choked his current girlfriend after an argument at a local bar, but no domestic violence charges had been filed against Griffith by Tuesday morning, according to J. Reuben Long Detention Center records.
According to an Horry County police report, officers went to a home in the Little River area around 3:30 p.m. Monday after getting a wanted person’s call.
While on the way, HCPD received information from Myrtle Beach police that Griffith was being housed at the location they were headed to and had active felony warrants out of Myrtle Beach, the report states.
Police said no one appeared to be home when they first arrived, but about 15 minutes later, a vehicle pulled up and a man resembling Griffith stepped out from the passenger side.
He was placed under investigative detention, and authorities said they noticed a strong smell of alcohol emitting from him. A brown paper bag was discovered on the passenger side floor board with what appeared to be a liquor bottle inside, according to the report.
Officers said they found two opened mini bottles of vodka and a large opened bottle of vodka inside. Griffith was then arrested in connection with open container of alcohol inside a vehicle. Police said they verified Griffith was deceiving them about who he was by giving a false name to elude arrest, and he was also charged with giving false information to police, the report states.
Griffith has been in trouble with the local law before. In 2015, he was arrested for allegedly pinning Evans to a toilet while removing her engagement ring. The charges were later dropped.
He has also faced charges for resisting arrest and drunken driving.
He remained jailed Tuesday morning.
