White man resisting a trip to jail tells police ‘Black Lives Matter’
An unruly man, described as a “white” male, struggling with police who tried to detain him Saturday night stated “black lives matter” as he pulled away, according to a police report. The report states the man then bashed his own head into a patrol car twice before being restrained on the ground.
Myrtle Beach police were called to Crocodile Rocks at Broadway at the Beach after a fight broke out between two men around 10:30 p.m. Security officers at Broadway at the Beach had the two men detained and separated when police arrived.
Officer D. Snyder said he attempted to get information from one of the men identified as 28-year-old Joshua Aresmandy Reyes, but Reyes was constantly yelling profanities, according to the report.
Police placed Reyes under arrest and walked him to a patrol car where Reyes allegedly continued to shout and complained his handcuffs were too tight. As officers tried to adjust his cuffs, Reyes “began tensing up his hands and stated we should tighten them,” Snyder noted in the report.
Snyder said Reyes then stated “black lives matter” as he tried pull away from officers.
Police started to walk Reyes to the door of the patrol car when Snyder said he “suddenly reared back and slammed his head on the hood of my car in a violent manner. Myself and other officers attempted to restrain him, but he overpowered us and slammed his head again on the hood of the car.”
Reyes was restrained on the ground until he calmed down, but continued to scream profanities even from the pavement, according to the report.
Reyes was charged with disorderly conduct and damage to property. Officers estimate the dents on the hood will cost $50 to repair.
