Shots fired outside home of Heather Elvis family
A man reported being shot at outside the family home of missing woman Heather Elvis on Wednesday night, and Horry County police are investigating the incident, which they are calling an attempted murder, according to a police report.
Officers were called about 10 p.m. Wednesday to a home off Sly Fox Trail, which an online search showed is the home of the Elvis family.
The call was in reference to a shooting, police said, and they met with a male victim whose name was redacted from the report.
He told police he was taking trash out to a can in front of his home and as he was putting trash in the can, he said he heard a popping sound and felt the trash can being struck, according to the report.
The victim told police he ran behind his vehicles and eventually into his home. He also told police he saw a vehicle on Recreation Road, near where it intersects with Sly Fox Trail, drive off toward S.C. 707, the report states.
He said he couldn’t describe the vehicle because it was dark outside, and the vehicle was too far down the road, police said.
Authorities said the victim’s trash can did have about four holes in it. Police searched the street for shell casings, but didn’t find any, according to the report.
Heather Elvis has been missing since Dec. 18, 2013. Her car was discovered by police locked and abandoned the following day at the Peachtree Landing boat ramp.
Sidney Moorer, 40, is charged with kidnapping in connection with Elvis’ disappearance. He was tried in June, but a hung jury led to a mistrial, and a change of venue for a retrial that will be held in Georgetown County was just announced Wednesday.
Moorer’s wife Tammy is also charged with kidnapping in connection with the case. The couple was originally charged with murder in 2014, but those charges were dropped in March.
A trial date has not been set for Tammy Moorer, and a retrial date has not been set for Sidney Moorer.
