18-year-old from Myrtle Beach dies from accidental gunshot

Myrtle Beach police are investigating after a shooting left an 18-year-old Myrtle Beach man dead, according to the Horry County Coroner’s office.

Atu Williams II, 18, of Myrtle Beach, died at Conway Medical Center at 8:08 p.m. Wednesday of a gunshot wound.

Police responded to the 1100 block of Mr. Joe White Avenue on Wednesday night, according to a police report. A witness told police that Williams accidentally shot himself in the chest.

He was getting out of a car and pulling a firearm out of his waistband when he accidentally discharged the weapon, according to a police report including the witness’s account. Two other people were with Williams and drove him to the hospital, the witness said.
