Spirit Airlines is adding two daily non-stop flights from Myrtle Beach International Airport to New Jersey and Ohio beginning next spring, local airport officials announced Friday.

The additional flights will begin to the Newark Liberty International Airport on March 9, and the daily trips to the Akron-Canton Airport in North Canton, Ohio, will start April 27.

“We are excited about Spirit’s ongoing commitment to the Myrtle Beach International Airport,” Scott Van Moppes, interim Horry County airport director said in a statement announcing the new routes.

The new non-stop service on Spirit Airlines between Myrtle Beach and Newark complement existing non-stop service currently provided by United Airlines, while the new non-stop service on Spirit between Myrtle Beach and Akron/Canton will complement existing non-stop service provided by Allegiant Air.

Tammy Baxley, spokeswoman for the Horry County Department of Airports, said the new Spirit Airlines service will complement existing non-stop flights currently offered by United Airlines, while non-stop service offered by Allegiant Air to Akron-Canton will complement the Spirit flights to Ohio.
