Parking passes for Golden Mile guests, non-city residents available July 1
New parking passes for non-city residents and guests of homes along side streets north of 31st Avenue North will be available from Lanier Parking beginning July 1, when new regulations that ban free parking from the Golden Mile to the city’s northern limits go into effect.
Under the new rules, on-street parking along the east side of Ocean Boulevard from 31st Avenue North to 52nd Avenue North will be marked and open only to residents with city parking decals. Inside city residents that pay city property taxes on cars registered inside Myrtle Beach are eligible to receive free parking decals.
Non-city residents or part-time residents that do not have registered cars in the city will be available to purchase a parking decal for $100 a year beginning July 1 from Lanier Parking located on the first floor of the Pavilion Parking Garage. The non-resident decal will allow vehicles to park for free, but only in the city’s Buchanan lot at Second Avenue North and at a lot at 16th Avenue North.
Beachfront access lots in the Golden Mile, which had remained free to visitors for decades, will be converted to pay-by-phone spaces beginning July 1. The rates were initially set to be double the cost of other city parking rates, but Myrtle Beach leaders have since discussed options of keeping the parking prices uniform citywide.
Myrtle Beach City Council is set to adopt the new rates for the spaces at its July 28 meeting.
Parking in the beachfront lots will remain free to city residents with parking decals and for motorists with disabled placards or for cars with specialized plates for handicap access, purple heart recipients and disabled veterans.
Under the new parking rules, parking along the rights-of-way of avenues and side streets between Kings Highway and Ocean Boulevard from 31st Avenue North to 82nd Avenue North will be restricted only to city residents with parking decals or to guests of homes in that area.
Each property in the area will be eligible to receive four guest placards beginning July 1 at Lanier Parking. Residents or property owners must bring proof of property ownership or tenancy to obtain the placards. The placards may be used only on the street for which they are issued, according to the city.
Parking decals for in-city golf carts, which must be registered with the S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles, are also available for residents that pay Myrtle Beach property tax on an in-city automobile. Non-resident golf carts within the area of 31st Avenue North to 82nd Avenue North between Kings Highway and Ocean Boulevard will also be eligible to receive a parking decal if registered with the DMV.
