16-year-old drowns at Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet, coroner says
A 16-year-old boy drowned Tuesday while at Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet, according to the Georgetown County Coroner’s Office.
Coroner Chase Ridgeway confirmed Tuesday evening that the boy was taken to Waccamaw Community Hospital where he later died.
Ridgeway said the boy’s name would be released upon family notification.
Midway Fire Rescue responded to the accident, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.
South Carolina Department of Natural Resources also responded to the accident, but recovery of the teenager had already been made by the time officers arrived and CPR was being administered, according to Greg Lucas with the SCDNR. Because there wasn’t a boat involved, it is not a SCDNR case, Lucas said by text.
Other details of the incident were not immediately available.
