Topgolf officially coming to Myrtle Beach
The Myrtle Beach Community Appearance Board welcomed Topgolf to the city during a Thursday afternoon meeting.
Topgolf, a sports entertainment community, features golf games for all ages as well as climate-controlled bays, bars and TV viewing areas.
“I do commend you,” board member Larry Bragg said. “I think it’s an exciting concept. It does continue with our idea of sports tourism, and even if we haven’t been pointing our city in that direction thus far, it’s a place where golfers can come to, families can come to. I think it’s a wonderful addition to the city.”
While the initial design was not approved by the board, the company can resubmit plans as early as July.
“Is it a perfect plan?” asked Bragg. “No.”
Located across from Broadway at the Beach at Grissom Parkway and 29th Ave. North, the 38,382-square-foot building will be made up of three floors which will include various driving ranges, a restaurant and outdoor patios, offering a place where people can go rain or shine.
“This is absolutely spot-on in terms of catching people’s attention, I believe,” Bragg said.
Topgolf will be open from 9 a.m. - 2 a.m., and the centers typically have around 500 employees.
“We like to hire locals,” a Topgolf representative stated at the meeting.
Topgolf has 33 venues - 30 in the United States and three in the United Kingdom. The most recent Topgolf opening was in Charlotte, N.C.
