Shows go on � in L.A.

In the run-up to New York Fashion Week, Los Angeles found itself abuzz with a series of high-profile fashion happenings, many by designers, including Rachel Zoe and Tommy Hilfiger, who opted for L.A.-area venues and weather instead of showing in the Big Apple this season. Here's a look at those fashion shows by designers in a SoCal state of mind.

A brand to know: Club Monaco

NEW YORK - It's time to join the club - Club Monaco, that is. This Canadian retail concept with stores across the country is owned by Polo Ralph Lauren and specializes in mid-priced, high-end casual clothing, shoes and accessories for women and men. (Think J. Crew or Banana Republic, but more relaxed and unexpected.)

Models rock runway in clothes, accessories made out of condoms

Designers used condoms to create fashion for a runway event in Charlotte, NC called Condom Couture. Each designer was given at least 1,000 non-lubricated condoms, and designs range from ballgowns to bathing suits to jewelry. The event, seen here in timelapsed video, ended with an auction of the couture with proceeds going to Planned Parenthood.
