Hall of Fame bowler Schwind leaving Grand Strand for Greenville

Tom Schwind, an outstanding bowler on the Grand Strand for 27 years, will be leaving the Grand Strand on July 8 to pursue career opportunities in Greenville. Schwind has been one of the top five bowlers each year for the past 20 years.

Schwind was inducted into the Grand Strand Bowling Hall of Fame in 2009 and elected to the South Carolina Bowling Hall of Fame in 2013. His resume includes 44 perfect games and 34 series of 800 or more. His highest winter league average has been 238.

“I would like to thank the Grand Strand bowlers for providing me with 27 wonderful years of bowling. Through the great sport of bowling, I have met some special and amazing people,” Schwind said. “I can't thank everyone individually because there are too many of you. I would like to thank Bob Reed for the time that he took over the years to write the bowling news for The Sun News every week. I would also like to thank Ted Ackley for nominating me for induction into the Grand Strand and South Carolina Halls of Fame. You will both truly be missed.

“I can't thank everyone enough for the special friendships formed over the span of my bowling on the Grand Strand. My wife, Dee and I are moving to Greenville. We are hoping that the Greenville Bowling Family will provide the same opportunities and friendships that we have had on the Grand Strand. Again, we are going to miss everyone and we thank all of the bowling family that we have met over the years.”

Dee and Tom will be greatly missed by all of the Grand Strand bowlers.
