Carolina Panthers net worth increased yet again in new Forbes NFL team rankings

The Carolina Panthers net worth surged by roughly $150 million in the last year, according to a 2020 ranking by Forbes that was released Thursday, just in time for the start of the new season.

That puts the Panthers net worth at $2.55 billion — a 6% increase from last year, according to the magazine. The Panthers are still the No. 22 most valuable in the NFL, a ranking the team has held for two years now.

The Panthers have an operating income of $96 million, an increase from the $78 million that Forbes reported last year.

The team first hit a net worth of over $2 billion in a 2016 ranking by the magazine, following a near-perfect season and Super Bowl run in 2015.

The Dallas Cowboys led the Forbes list of most valuable teams for the 14th year, with a net worth of $5.7 billion and an operating income of $425 million this year.

Still, Panthers owner David Tepper outranks all other team owners on another Forbes list, ranking No. 41 on the magazine’s annual ranking of the 400 richest Americans.

Forbes called Tepper, with a net worth of $13 billion, “arguably the greatest hedge fund manager of his generation.”

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made that list too, ranking at No. 56 with a net worth of $8.6 billion.

The Panthers kicked off the 2020 season Sunday with a home game against the Las Vegas Raiders. No fans were allowed in the stands because of the novel coronavirus.

The Panthers dropped the opener, with the final score of Raiders 34-30 over Carolina.
