Trello Galloway once again used his experience to help a young team overseas.

The Myrtle Beach native joined Bahrein Premier League team Al Najma in December and helped a young team make strides throughout the season.

“They needed leadership on the team; it was a younger team,” Galloway, 36, said during friend Ramon Sessions’ youth basketball camp at the Myrtle Beach Sports Center. “It was good, man. It was probably one of the funner times I’ve had in my career.”

Having played with a different team in the country last season, Galloway turned to a familiar face when finding a new squad this year.

“I was pretty familiar with the coach. He actually was one of my former coach’s best friends. My former coach passed away so it was an easy transition over to his team,” Galloway said. “He was familiar with who I was and what I did.”

Galloway says he surprised himself with his play after 12 years competing overseas. He always earned his own personal motto.

“Surprisingly, it was pretty good,” he said. “They actually got a motto for me, they say ‘Old is gold.’ They say every year I come back it’s like I’m getting younger. I don’t let them see it, but I feel it nowadays; I can tell the difference. I’m 36 now.”

Nonetheless, Galloway still plans to keep playing as long as he can.

“I’m going to do it as long as God blesses me with the health and strength to do it,” he said.
