Sessions talks former teammate Kobe Bryant, former team Cleveland

Two stories dominated much of the NBA coverage this past season.

Both are ones with which Myrtle Beach native Ramon Sessions has a connection to.

One of the game’s all-time greats, Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, played out his final season with a farewell tour across the country and, behind LeBron James, the Cleveland Cavaliers overcame a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals to beat the Golden State Warriors and end their city’s drought of more than 50 years.

Sessions played alongside Bryant with the Lakers in 2012.

“His career speaks for itself, a guy that played for one organization for so long and one of the best players to ever play the game, if not the best player in our era, he’s up there,” said Sessions, a free agent after spending last season with Washington. “I remember playing him when we was playing the last game of the season in D.C. You know, I just told him congratulations on everything at the end of the game and he just said ‘Have a great career.’ Kobe was a great guy, a great guy I learned from on and off the court. He’s one of the best to play the game.”

Sessions also played for Cleveland from 2010-12, arriving the year in which James left to sign with the Miami Heat before returning to Cleveland in 2014.

“I’m excited for them. They deserve it. That’s one of the most loyal franchises, fans you will see in the NBA,” Sessions said. “You know, I was there and we wasn’t the best team at all, but they showed up every night, they was dedicated and I’m just happy for that city and happy for Lebron. He said he wanted to do that and that’s huge. If I had a team – if there was an NBA team in Myrtle Beach – that would be something I would want to do just because the city means so much to me. I’m so I’m happy for him.”
