Myrtle Beach Pelicans clinch sixth straight postseason berth with victory over Carolina Mudcats
Final score
Myrtle Beach Pelicans 2, Carolina Mudcats 1, 10 innings (Box score)
Turning point
A Travis Demeritte RBI double tied things 1-all in the fifth inning, and neither team scored in the remaining four innings of regulation. The Pelicans took advantage in the 10th inning, however, as Andrew Ely drove in David Bote on a double for the game-winning run as Myrtle Beach held off Carolina in the bottom half of the 10th.
The man
Ely and Bote, who were both 2-for-4 and had one RBI each.
Decision takers
W–Daniel Lewis (4-0). L–Zach Quintana (1-6).
Postseason bound
The Pelicans have locked up a playoff berth via the wild card procedure in the Carolina League. Because the Salem Red Sox won the first-half Southern Division title, Myrtle Beach needed to finish with a better second-half mark than Carolina and Winston-Salem. The Pelicans are still looking to clinch the second-half southern division championship, which would give them a home game in the Division Championship Series.
Myrtle Beach will still continue in its pursuit of the second-half division championship, which would give the Pelicans a home game in the Southern Division Championship Series. Myrtle Beach is currently one game ahead of Salem in the division race.
By the numbers
