Catcher Erick Castillo – who batted ninth Monday – launched his third hit of the night in the eighth inning, a solo home run which was his first after 22 games in a Myrtle Beach uniform.
The man
Pelicans slugger Yasiel Balaguert, who was 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.
He said it
I made good adjustments, tried to keep it up the middle of the field and looked for my pitch and that’s what happened.Hit parade tonight. We had a lot of hits as a team, played solid defense and scored runs when we needed to.Obviously [starter Jeremy] Null struggled badly at the beginning with a lot of solid contact and they got runs but he found away to give us two shutout [innings] and give us a chance. The bullpen was outstanding; that’s the best [Craig] Brooks has thrown and Daury did the job. Castillo doesn’t play much but he did a good job tonight, reaching base three times and scoring all three times. He was the leadoff hitter in three of the (five) innings we did score runs in. He gave us what we needed to start the innings with a single in the fifth, hit by pitch in the seventh and a home run [in the eighth]. And Balaguert and [infielder David] Bote continue to swing well.
