He said it
Great night for the Pelicans. The pitching was really good for us tonight. [Starter Erick] Leal with six shutout [innings] and when he went into the last inning, his pitch total was up. We would’ve liked to get him a CG (complete game) but with the first two guys getting on, it wasn’t going to work. Then, [reliever Tommy] Thorpe had some trouble, but [reliever Ryan] McNeil did a great job. The offense getting on the board in the first inning – with Crawford, Torres and Happ all getting hits – set the tone early. And McNeil did what he needed to in order to get the save.I felt really good out there. All my stuff was working and I was throwing quality pitches. I made two mistakes and they made me pay for them, but we did enough to hold on and get the win.In the second game, mostly all their hits came from their left-handed hitters. We got a big go-ahead run by Crawford in the fifth and Minch came in and was able to close them out. … Really nice doubleheader for us. I thought in the both games, [Rashad] Crawford and [Gleyber] Torres had really good days; not only getting hits but with walks, scoring runs and making things happen. It was a great series. We had a tough one prior to this – with Salem – and to come back home and take a series like this is great. There’s a lot of morale; we need to keep it rolling and take it on the road to Lynchburg.
