Final score

Myrtle Beach Pelicans 6, Potomac Nationals 2

Turning point

An inning after Pelicans slugger Jason Vosler hit a solo homer for the game’s first run, Yasiel Balaguert hit one of his own – a two-run blast to highlight a three-run third inning and Myrtle Beach never looked back.

The man

Pelicans outfielder Rashad Crawford, who racked up three hits and made two nice plays in the field.

He said it

It was pretty good. [There was] a lot of lefties tonight, so we had to get kind of creative in the zone. I was just trying to find ways to get outs however I could. A lot of hits tonight (10); I just had to work out of the stretch a lot and just trust my defense. They made some good plays for me and we had to focus with runners on tonight. The three-run third inning was big with Balaguert capping that off with one that was as good as he can hit a ball. But [Rashad] Crawford, to me, had the story of the game. He made two great plays; one in the gap and one diving with two runners on to save runs in the seventh inning. He got on base four times and made a lot of stuff happen, and [Jason] Vosler had a good game as well. The last couple of days, our offensive guys have been doing a lot better. We were in a bit of a funk and came out really swinging the bats.Hedges did a really nice job. He gave up more hits than usual, but at the same time – he didn’t give up extra-base hits and he didn’t walk people. It just shows you can give up hits and scatter them around, as long as you’re not putting extra runners on by walks. [Reliever James] Farris was outstanding. That’s a tough duty to come in with the bases loaded, facing the tying run and only one out. But he was able to get a strikeout and got us out [of the inning], then he 1-2-3’d them in the ninth. We had a lot of pluses tonight, and I could go down a whole list of guys that had a nice ballgame.Yeah, I’ve been having some good success. You just have to know what your strengths are, and I’ve been working a lot between starts and things like that. I have a good sinker; I just have to trust that pitch and I’ve been attacking hitters with it. … My mentality is just trying to get that hitter out of the box as quick as I can. There’s games where I’m going to get a lot of Ks (strikeouts), but right now I’ve been throwing the fastball until they prove they can hit it. That’s my mentality; not just strikeouts, I’m trying to get outs as quick as I can.
