Myrtle Beach’s Ian Happ slides safely into second base as Wilmington’s Humberto Arteaga applies a late tag. For The Sun News

Despite winning three in a row from Monday to Wednesday, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans finished with a 4-3 record for the week.

The Pelicans played a 14-inning contest – which took over four hours to complete – at Carolina on Tuesday, picking up a 3-2 win over the Mudcats after Daniel Lockhart’s RBI single in the top of the 14th proved to be the game-winning hit.

Myrtle Beach’s offense scored just 25 runs (3 1/2 per game) and was 11-for-46 (.239) with runners in scoring position while leaving 41 men on base (5.85 per game). But the Pelicans did hit six home runs (Gleyber Torres, Charcer Burks Ian Happ, Rashad Crawford, Jeffrey Baez 2).

Myrtle Beach’s pitching combined for 48 strikeouts and 26 walks, while limiting opponents to a little over four runs per game during the week. Reliever Daury Torrez pitched in three of the seven games, lowering his ERA from 4.00 to 3.09 as he allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk and struck out five in 6 1/3 innings.
