The Pelicans exploded for eight runs in the fifth inning and Myrtle Beach slugger Yasiel Balaguert followed the action-packed frame with a solo home run in the sixth to pad the lead.

Myrtle Beach starter Jeremy Null made his first start of the year after being sent to the Pelicans from Cubs’ extended spring training on Tuesday. Recovering from a shoulder ailment, the 6-foot-7 Null struck out three and scattered three hits across five scoreless frames en route to the victory.
