Myrtle Beach Pelicans come up short against Frederick Keys
Final score
Frederick Keys 7, Myrtle Beach Pelicans 5
Turning point
With the score tied at 1, the Keys pushed across four runs in the sixth inning as Aderlin Rodriguez started with a two-RBI triple. Jimmy Bosco added an RBI single and Jomar Reyes scored on a wild pitch in the decisive frame.
The man
Pelicans left fielder Charcer Burks, who was a double shy of the cycle. Burks went 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple and single to keep Myrtle Beach in this one.
He said it
I thought our guy Burks had a really nice game with a homer, the single and then the triple. Down two runs, he came up with two strikes and found a way to battle and got a triple. Then, down two runs in the ninth we had three shots at it to tie or take the lead and we just couldn’t get it done.Hedges did a really nice job and went four innings. In [the fifth] inning he gave up one run and couldn’t finish the next inning. And [reliever Dillon] Maples had trouble finding the plate and they took advantage and he got hurt, unfortunately. I had to take him out. Then [Ryan] McNeil did a really nice job getting us out of the inning. Unfortunately for him, he got to two outs and nobody on and gives up a run. Then we get back a run and then in the last inning again, we gave up a two-out run, which was too much. The sun will be up tomorrow and we’ll be playing again tomorrow night.
