Another flawless week nabs Pelicans’ Rucker another Carolina League weekly honor
New week, same award.
For the second straight week, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans’ Mike Rucker was recognized as the Carolina League’s Pitcher of the Week.
In two starts, opponents were unable to scratch a run across home plate against the right-hander.
On July 17 against Buies Creek, he struck out 10 batters in a career-high eight innings. He followed that up with five shutout innings in a July 22 start against Down East, sending seven opposing batters back to the dugout via strikeouts.
Those impressive outings come on the heels of Rucker flirting with a no-hitter the prior week against Winston-Salem.
Rucker is 3-2 with a 1.95 ERA in 14 games with the Pelicans, nine of those appearances coming in a starting role. In 60 innings, he has struck out 65 opposing batters against 44 hits and 13 walks.
Rucker began the season at the Chicago Cubs’ Low-A affiliate in South Bend, posting a 1.42 ERA in just shy of 13 innings on the mound.
