Registration opens Wednesday for the 19th running of the Myrtle Beach marathon, which moves to a new date in 2016.

The race, which has traditionally been held in mid-February, is moving to March to sidestep the kinds of weather complications that have forced delays and one last-minute cancellation.

This year’s HTC Runner’s Expo will be held March 3 and 4 at the new Myrtle Beach Sports Center, located near the convention center where it was previously held. The marathon will be on March 5, preceded by the annual Fun Run and the Neon Night 5K.

Early registrants pay the lowest entry fees for the races, which raise money for a variety of non-profits including the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of South Carolina, the Coastal South Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross and Horry County Schools.
