Edwards, Sinclair named to USA Today’s all-state team
While the book may have closed on their high school football careers, the accolades continue to roll in for Conway wide receiver Bryan Edwards and Myrtle Beach running back Brandon Sinclair.
The Grand Strand area gridiron stars were selected to the USA Today High School Sports American Family Insurance ALL-USA South Carolina Football Team, released Wednesday. Both Edwards and Sinclair were named first-team offense.
Edwards, a South Carolina commit, will enroll at the school in January. The Conway wide receiver was off to a memorable senior campaign with 53 passes for 969 yards and nine touchdowns before injuring his knee in November.
For his career, Edwards finished with 188 receptions for 2,562 yards and 32 touchdowns. Such solid numbers were among the reasons he was selected as one of five finalists for South Carolina’s Mr. Football award, in addition to being named to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
As for Sinclair, he was a key cog in helping lead Myrtle Beach to the Lower State title game. A North-South all-star game selection, he ran for 1,826 yards and 28 touchdowns in his senior season as a Seahawk.
For his career, Sinclair rushed for 5,341 yards and 70 touchdowns while accumulating 6,252 total yards and 74 scores. During his time in a Myrtle Beach uniform, the Seahawks went 32-11, winning the 2013 Class AAA state title.
Spartanburg’s Austin Scott was named the state’s Offensive Player of the Year, while Hillcrest’s Tori Delesline earned South Carolina’s top defensive honor. After leading Fort Dorchester to a 15-0 record and the program’s first state title, Steve LaPrad was named Coach of the Year.
