Area individual statistical leaders (Nov. 3)

With most of the area’s football teams off this week, a handful of local football players will have an opportunity to either extend their leads in the individual statistical categories or close the gap on those who do.

That starts with the primary weapons at Carolina Forest and Conway.

When the two Class AAAA schools meet on Friday, it will feature the area’s leading rusher in Panthers junior Dyverse Simmons, as well as the top passer in Conway’s Peyton Derrick. So far, Simmons is nearly 400 yards ahead of the second-place Brandon Sinclair.

Derrick’s holding a 220-yard advantage over Georgetown’s Jarvis Brown. Currently, the Bulldogs’ quarterback is two total touchdowns ahead of Derrick, and barring what would be an unusually low-scoring game between Conway and Carolina Forest on Friday, Derrick may be able to re-take the lead there, as well.

The Class AAA teams being off this week also means injured Conway receiver Bryan Edwards will hold onto his lead in that category for at least another week. Over the course of the last month, no area receiver has put up more yards than Myrtle Beach’s Elijah Rice.
