Green Sea Floyds builds big lead, throttles Creek Bridge
Green Sea Floyds ran and ran Friday night.
In fact, the Trojans ran their way to a pair of school records in beating Creek Bridge 44-16.
Green Sea Floyds piled up 513 yards on 51 rushes to break the previous school records for most rushing yards (439) and total yards on offense (505) en route to the dominating win.
“We needed a night like this to finish strong and get another win under our belt,” Trojans coach Tony Sullivan said. “It’s a good win. Everybody got to play. It’s always good when you have that. We set two school records and that’s the motivation of our system and what we’re trying to push here.”
Henry Moody ran for 164 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, Anthony Wilson ran for 72 yards two touchdowns on three carries and Wyatt Upchurch added 138 yards on 13 carries. Josh Slobodiak and Shaquan Gillard also scored rushing TDs.
“We just played an inside-outside game,” said Sullivan, whose team took a 44-0 lead into halftime. “We started inside and drove the ball successfully down the field. And then it opened up on the outside. Our offensive line did a good job blocking. They did a better job out on the perimeter than we had in the past.”
It was the Trojans’ first Region VIII-A win this year as they improved to 1-3 and 3-6 overall a season after going winless.
“The last two years were tough. We had a lot of young guys without a lot of experience,” Sullivan said. “We finally got some experience behind us. We’ve got a lot of momentum going toward the end of the season. We have a lot to build on because of the success we’ve had.”
Sullivan also believes his team could have had more wins on the board by now. His team has been outscored 94-12 in fourth quarters this season.
“Fourth quarters have really killed us all year,” he said. “That’s where a lot of times teams pulled away from us.”
Turnovers have also been an issue.
“We’ve moved the football all year, but we’ve killed ourselves,” Sullivan said. “When you average four or five turnovers, it doesn’t matter who you are.”
Nonetheless, it is clear progress is being made.
“We definitely have I think turned the corner,” Sullivan said.
