Socastee vs. West Florence high school football preview capsule

The game: There is a reason Socastee linebacker Zach Shear is among the area’s best in terms of tackles. The junior and the rest of the Braves’ defense seems to be on the field more than usual following a string of injuries to a number of offensive players. But this week, the skills that helped Shear accumulate 86 tackles and 14 for loss could help Socastee squeeze one more win out of a tough season. That’s because West Florence, which has lost seven straight while also adjusting offenses with a young bunch, relies heavily on tailback Eron Darby. The senior is a long run away from reaching 1,000 yards on the season, and he’s the Knight’s best chance at ending their losing ways.
