It’s been obvious for weeks that at least two Conway players were going to start challenging some of the school’s single-season records established during coach Chuck Jordan’s 33-year tenure.

Now, it appears Peyton Derrick and Bryan Edwards could shatter them.

In leading the area’s top offense, the the two offensive weapons are already climbing the all-time charts and are in position to move up considerably from week to week. Derrick’s 21 passing touchdowns is good enough for a tie for fourth-best all time since Jordan took over in 1983, and his 1,787 passing yards are fifth-best.

He is just six touchdown passes and 684 yards behind his older brother, Dakota, who set bot of the program marks in 2007 before moving on to a college career at Furman.

For Edwards, his eight receiving touchdowns are only six behind that of Eric Huggins’ 2003 total. The South Carolina commit also has 873 receiving yards through seven games. Although Conway hasn’t posted individual single-season receiving totals, it is believed Edwards will soon own that record as well.

Former Conway standout Junior Hemingway’s University of Michigan biography credited him with 1,950 yards and 23 touchdowns in a Conway career in which he also played other positions.

Edwards already has 2,446 yards in three-plus seasons, and he and Derrick aren’t anywhere close to finished.

Conway (6-1, 1-0) is in solid position to earn one of Region VI-AAAA’s three automatic playoff berths, meaning the Tigers’ stars should have at least five additional games to boost their individual numbers.

They’re not the only area players approaching school records.

Georgetown quarterback Jarvis Brown and his 1,145 yards this season leave him 475 shy of Caleb Hughes’ all-time mark, a figure the former Bulldog set in 2012 before heading to Limestone.
