Conway moves Friday’s game to CCU; Georgetown, Myrtle Beach, NMB to play Saturday
At least for one game, Conway football will again call Coastal Carolina home.
The Tigers’ Friday game against West Florence has been moved to CCU’s Brooks Stadium due to flooding and water damage at the Backyard. Conway coach Chuck Jordan said there were still some logistics to work out, but that the game would remain a 7:30 p.m. start time.
“We’re very appreciative to Coastal Carolina,” Jordan said. “We were in a bind, and they stepped up.”
CCU will have a home game the following day against Presbyterian at 2 p.m. However, the new teal FieldTurf will not be subjected to any damage. Jordan had said earlier this week that he was exploring options to play the game elsewhere. Although his own field had mostly drained by Monday afternoon, it was under more than three feet of water on Sunday following heavy rains associated with Hurricane Joaquin and a previous storm front.
Conway football played its home games at The Graveyard at Coastal Carolina through the 1999 season. After that, the school’s own football field was completed, and the Tigers moved their games there.
Additionally, Myrtle Beach’s scheduled Friday game at Lake City has been moved to noon Saturday, according to coach Mickey Wilson, and North Myrtle Beach at Georgetown has been moved to noon Saturday.
