Area individual statistical leaders (Sept. 28)
With non-region games wrapped up, we’ve got a solid sample size for who the top individuals are shaking out to be on area football fields this year.
Conway’s Peyton Derrick and Bryan Edwards and Carolina Forest’s Dyverse Simmons have spent significant time atop the four primary offensive categories tracked by The Sun News for much of the season. But as most teams start to face stiffer competition with rivalries and playoff berths on the line, it will be interesting to see how the names in the leaders categories shift in coming weeks.
With Class AAAA squads all off this Friday, it stands to reason that at least Derrick’s slim lead in touchdowns could be overtaken. That may be the only top spot that changes, as he and Edwards have substantial leads in the passing and receiving categories, respectively. Simmons also has a three-figure lead in rushing yards, although Myrtle Beach’s Brandon Sinclair has already shown an ability to reach that in a hurry.
