Aynor football leads Latta, but has finish pushed to Friday
So much for moving the game up a day.
Aynor, which started its game against Latta on Thursday to beat expected storms on Friday, will have to wait until closer to the normal start day and time to finish. The Blue Jackets were leading 22-13 with 3:13 to go in the second quarter when lightning moved into the area. Thirty-seven minutes later, officials elected to suspend the game.
The teams will return for a 7 p.m. game continuance on Friday.
It was the second consecutive week Aynor’s game was delayed, following a one-hour, 20-minute lightning delay last Friday.
When play resumes, Latta will have the ball at the Aynor 24-yard line. Both teams have had plenty of success moving the ball so far. The Blue Jackets had run for 212 yards on 30 carries. Jonathan Gause led the way with 93 yards on five carries; fellow fullback Jalen Dixon had six carries for 51 yards and a touchdowns and quarterback Caleb Jenerette had already rushed for 50 yards and a score.
Tailback Zach Todd had 15 yards, a touchdown and two 2-point conversions early.
Latta’s spread offense was led by quarterback Colby Lee, who had rushed for 58 yards and thrown for another 53, including a 49-yard touchdown strike to receiver Davonte Porter. Running back Kartilus McFadden had also rushed for 51 yards.
Aynor is attempting to move to 3-0 for the first time in two seasons. In 2013, the Vikings were the first team to hand the Blue Jackets a loss.
Much like Aynor, Latta was also affected by weather for the second straight week. Coach Brandon Iseman’s team lost 21-0 to Dillon in Week 2 when the game was called with 1 minute remaining in the opening quarter due to lightning.
