Jody Jenerette has some “solid dudes.”

They proved that Friday night.

Quarterback Caleb Jenerette and running backs Colie Rogers, Zach Todd, Jalin Dixon and Jonathan Gause all ran for touchdowns in the Aynor football team’s season-opening 48-6 win over Creek Bridge.

“We’re going to run the ball. You don’t have to be a stud back there to run the ball,” Blue Jackets coach Jody Jenerette said. “You’ve just got to have some solid dudes and we do.”

A year ago, Aynor relied on Kamron Johnson and Daquan Smith to carry the load in the backfield. Jenerette said he’ll rely on multiple backs to lead the run-heavy offense this year.

“In the past we’ve limited ourselves to one or two guys. This year we have five or six guys,” he said. “It’s a good problem to have.”

Todd had the most yards with 84, Rogers added 59 – on just three carries – Jenerette added 52 and Blake Gore contributed 37 as the Blue Jackets piled up 315 yards on 42 carries.

“It’s going to be running back by committee all season,” Jenerette said. “That’s a good thing because our players have to play both ways. That way we can rotate them in and out and that’ll help.”

Aynor built a 48-0 lead before Creek Bridge got on the board in the third quarter. While Jenerette said his team played “sloppy,” he lauded his defense and special teams. Charlie Carroll ran an interception back 45 yards for a touchdown and the kicking game showed prowess, he said.

“I was real happy for those guys. They played real well,” Jenerette said of his defense. “The kicking game was real solid. We got an onside kick and one time kicked the ball out of the end zone. We hadn’t done that in a long time. I’m real proud of our special teams, too.”

But?

“We just need to work on being more polished. It’s hard this time of the year to be good at everything,” Jenerette said. “We just need to do a better job with the little things. We were pretty sloppy actually. It’s just good to get those things out of our system in Week 1 and get ready for Week 2.”

Despite winning big in Week 1, Jenerette wants to make sure his players don’t get too high. The Blue Jackets take on Green Sea Floyds – a team that they beat 46-18 last year but is off to a 2-0 start this year – next week.

“Obviously next week is a big week for us. With Green Sea Floyds being 2-0 it kind of lends itself to a lot bigger game than it’s been in the past,” Jenerette said. “It looks like Coach [Tony] Sullivan has got them headed in the right direction. We’re excited; we think it will be a good game.”
