Touchstone Energy Bowl held annually in Myrtle Beach canceled amid coronavirus concerns

The 2020 North-South all-star football game has been canceled.

Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl tweeted Sunday that this year’s game will not be played out of caution amid the coronavirus.

“Due to continuing public health concerns associated with COVID-19, the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association (SCACA), the SC Football Coaches Association (SCFBC), the North/South Committee have cancelled the 2020 Touchstone Energy Coop North/South All-Star Football Game to be played Dec. 12, 2020 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, Myrtle Beach, SC.,” according to a news release the bowl game shared.

The game annually features the top seniors from South Carolina — not selected for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas — in an all-star game.

The Shrine Bowl was canceled in July similarly to “challenges of COVID-19.”

“Our concern for the safety and well-being of these exceptional athletes representing high school communities throughout our state, the coaches and essential personnel involved in the game, as well as the family members, fans, and spectators attending the event has prompted this decision,” the North-South news release states.

It concluded by looking forward to the 2021 game.

“Remember, ‘Stars Shine Brighter at the Beach’ ..... See you at the All-Star Game on Dec. 10, 2021!” the release states.
