Socastee’s road to the playoffs became infinitely tougher. Here’s why.

Socastee made the trip to Florence with the playoffs on their mind.

On the way back, however, the Braves now are looking to pick up the pieces of a season seemingly on the brink.

Ailym Ford rushed for 192 yards and two touchdowns to propel West Florence to a 50-27 romp over Socastee.

As a result, the Knights earn their first win in Region 6-5A competition, and back into the mix for one of the league’s four playoff berths. On the other hand, Socastee’s road has become all the more difficult, the Braves falling to 0-3 in region play and games against South Florence and Sumter remaining on their schedule.

Turning point

After Socastee drew first blood with an Edward Tucker fumble return in the opening stanza, West Florence scored the game’s next 22 points, putting the Braves in scramble mode for the rest of the game.

Key performers

Ailym Ford, West Florence: Rushed for 192 yards and two touchdowns. He surpassed the 1,000-yard mark with his rushing total in the game.

Hale Emerson, West Florence: He did throw much, but his 33-yard touchdown pass upped the Knights’ advantage in the second quarter.
