Seaver reaches end zone seven times as Aynor beats Waccamaw in shootout
Despite a 4-2 start to the season, Jody Jenerette felt his Aynor team had yet to live up to its billing as a physical ballclub.
Noah Seaver ran for 315 yards and seven touchdowns, leading the Blue Jackets to a 57-33 win over Region 6-3A foe Waccamaw.
With the win, Aynor moves to 5-2 on the season, and 1-1 in league play.
“We hadn’t been physical all year like we can be, and I thought we brought it tonight,” Jenerette said. “We played with good effort up front, and obviously (Seaver) had a good night.”
Said Seaver: “This is definitely a first for me. … The more we went on, the more we woke up, and everyone started playing their guts out, having a good night.”
Courtesy of its passing game, Waccamaw was able to hang close for much of the first half.
Tyree Funnye played a big role in that, finishing the game with seven catches for 225 yards and three touchdowns.
However, Waccamaw head man Shane Fidler stressed the importance of being able to get stops at key times.
“We just have to do a better job defensively,” he said. “You just can’t go back and forth and trade scores like that. Eventually, you have to make stops, and we didn’t make enough tonight.
Turning point
With Aynor up 21-20 late in the first half, a 50-yard run by quarterback Spencer Sarvis set up Seaver’s fourth of seven touchdowns on the night, giving the Blue Jackets some much needed breathing room.
