Team of the week

Myrtle Beach: After enduring a week of questions, the Seahawks responded with a dominant win over Carolina Forest. Against a Panthers team known for its ground attack, it was Myrtle Beach that was the more aggressive squad, rushing for 189 yards en route to a 35-14 win.

For the Seahawks, it was a positive shot in the arm before it takes on undefeated Conway, which is also ranked No. 5 in Class 5A.

Player of the week

Deondray Stanfield, St. James: For the second straight week, the Sharks running back was voted as the top performer from the previous week of play.

Against Georgetown, he has 123 yards on 10 carries, including an 85-yard touchdown run. Unfortunately for him, it came in a 26-23 loss to Georgetown.

For the season, Stanfield has 383 yards on the ground and seven touchdowns.

Deakidd Anderson, Georgetown: Caught four passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ 26-23 win over St. James.

Matt Beale, Carolina Forest: Completed 16 of his 21 passes for 264 yards and a touchdown, in addition to another score on the ground.

Henry Blake, Georgetown: Had 10 tackles — two for a loss — in the Bulldogs’ 26-23 win over St. James.

Kered Class, North Myrtle Beach: Had 11 carries for 194 yards and two touchdowns for the Chiefs in their 41-7 win over Socastee.

Tyler Gore, North Myrtle Beach: Returned a kick 85 yards for a touchdown, along with forcing a fumble for the Chiefs in a 41-7 win over Socastee.

Jermani Green, Myrtle Beach: Rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns as the Seahawks worked past Carolina Forest for a 35-14 win.

Shaquille Johnson, Green Sea Floyds: Scored five touchdowns in the first half of last week’s game against Military Magnet, along with 112 yards through the air as the Trojans earned a 61-3 win. 

Toronto King, Carvers Bay: Had 99 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown for the Bears in a 47-28 win over Andrews.

Marcelous Livingston, North Myrtle Beach: Had six tackles and two sacks for the Chiefs in their 41-7 win over Socastee.

Daniel Mitchell, Myrtle Beach: Had eight total tackles — four coming in the Carolina Forest backfield — along with two sacks for the Seahawks in their 35-14 win last Friday.

Patrick Murphy, St. James: Had 11 total tackles and two sacks for the Sharks in their 26-23 loss to Georgetown.

Michael Pipkin, Andrews: Had 102 yards on 20 carries for the Yellow Jackets in their 47-28 loss to Carvers Bay.

Isaiah Pringle, Georgetown: Had 10 total tackles for the Bulldogs in their 26-23 win over St. James.

Torazz Rice, North Myrtle Beach: Had eight totals tackles and a sack for the Chiefs in their win over Socastee.

Gary Salters, Myrtle Beach: Was credited with 11 total tackles for the Seahawks in their 35-14 win over Carolina Forest.

Salim Sessions, Myrtle Beach: Had seven total tackles, including three in the opposing backfield for the Seahawks in their 35-14 win over Carolina Forest.

Janaz Sumpter, Carvers Bay: Had 212 total yards and five touchdowns for the Bears in their 47-28 win over Andrews.

1. Conway (4-0): Tigers were idle a week ago, but get back to action by taking on hated Myrtle Beach in the Battle for the Victory Bell.

2. North Myrtle Beach (5-0): Chiefs did a number on Socastee, beating the previously undefeated Braves 41-7. Take on Camden before starting Region 7-4A play against Myrtle Beach.

3. Carvers Bay (4-1): Despite turnover issues, the Bears still were able to outpace Andrews, 47-28.

4. Socastee (3-1): Braves stay pat this week despite being dismantled by North Myrtle Beach.

5. Myrtle Beach (2-3): Move back into area rankings after a 35-14 win over Carolina Forest.
