Tale of the tape

The defending state champion Patriots got another outstanding performance from talented quarterback Dakereon Joyner and forced five Tigers turnovers to end Conway’s surprise run in the Class 5A playoffs.

Key scene

After Conway pulled to within seven points in the third quarter, Raquan Simmons caught a 47-yard touchdown pass from Joyner as Fort Dorchester started to pull away.

Starring role

Joyner, who threw for 173 yards, ran for 148 and had three total touchdowns.

Staggered early by several big plays, the Chiefs were unable to answer the bell in their Lower State 4A semifinal matchup with the Eagles.

Key scene

Explosive plays came early and often for the Eagles, who took a little more than two minutes to post the game’s opening points. Getting yards in chunks through the air, Chapin moved 69 yards in seven plays, as quarterback Cooper Bemis hit pay dirt with 6-yard run give it a 7-0 advantage.

Starring role

Chapin quarterback Trad Beatty, who ran for 113 yards and threw for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
