TEAM OF THE WEEK

Carvers Bay: Teams are not judged by what happens during the good times, rather by those in which they experience adversity. Despite losing bodies left and right against Whale Branch, the Bears found a way to win, claiming a 22-7 victory to advance in the Class 2A playoffs. As tends to be the case for Carvers Bay this time of year, the team was led by its defense which held a vaunted Warriors rushing attack to 140 yards on Friday night.

Dondre Thompson, North Myrtle Beach: The senior defensive back had seven tackles, a forced fumble and an interception in the Chiefs’ 28-14 win over Cane Bay.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS

Kevliq Bennett, North Myrtle Beach: The senior linebacker had six solo tackles and four assists for the Chiefs in their 28-14 win over Cane Bay.

Steven Bryant, North Myrtle Beach: The senior defensive lineman had five solo tackles and two assists, two sacks and a forced fumble in the Chiefs’ 28-14 win over Cane Bay.

Kered Class, North Myrtle Beach: The junior running back had 80 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown in the Chiefs’ 28-14 win over Cane Bay.

Peyton Derrick, Conway: The senior quarterback completed 11 of 24 passes for 201 yards and a touchdown, in addition to 92 yards on 17 carries and another score in the Tigers’ 14-0 win over Spring Valley.

Quevon Dickerson, Carvers Bay: The junior defensive standout had five tackles and four assists, a caused fumble and a safety in the Bears’ 22-7 win over Whale Branch.

Mahammud Graham, Green Sea Floyds: The senior running back had 78 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown in the Trojans’ 32-6 loss to C.E. Murray.

Cason McClendon, North Myrtle Beach: The sophomore quarterback completed 12 of 20 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns in the Chiefs’ 28-14 win over Cane Bay.

Cullin Mitchell, North Myrtle Beach: The senior tight end caught four passes for 67 yards and a touchdown in the Chief’s 28-14 win over Cane Bay.

Jaylen Moody, Conway: The junior linebacker led the Tigers with 13 tackles in the team’s 14-0 win over Spring Valley.

D’Quarius Pressley, Carvers Bay: The junior linebacker had seven tackles — one of them a sack — and five assists in the Bears’ 22-7 win over Whale Branch.

Alex Smith, Georgetown: The Bulldogs’ receiver caught three touchdown passes in their loss 42-21 loss to Brookland-Cayce.

Darren Stanley, Conway: Seeing time at defensive back for the second consecutive week, the senior standout nabbed a pair of Spring Valley passes in the Tigers’ 14-0 win.

Tyron Stockdale, North Myrtle Beach: The sophomore receiver caught two passes for 49 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs’ 28-14 win over Cane Bay.

Byron Young, Carvers Bay: The senior defensive end had nine tackles — two of which came for a loss — and three assists in the Bears’ 22-7 win over Whale Branch.
