Green Sea Floyds comes up short against C.E. Murray in second round

With its running game continually running into walls, Green Sea Floyds wasn’t able to control the clock Friday night.

It proved to be enough to end a historic season for the Trojans, who fell 32-6 to C.E. Murray in the second round of the Class A playoffs.

Mahammud Graham ran 20 times for 78 yards, but Green Sea Floyds was held to 136 yards on 43 carries.

“When you start getting into [this part] of the playoffs all of these teams get tougher. They were very physical, very quick up front and we just couldn’t match the speed up front,” Trojans coach Tony Sullivan said. “They just hit the gaps and they did a very good job of containing us and then just getting up field. We had a very hard time blocking them.”

Nonetheless, Green Sea Floyds (6-6) posted its first playoff victory in 13 years this season and finished the year with 1,131 yards on the ground.

“The getting back-to-the-playoffs situation … it’s been a long time since a Green Sea Floyds team could say they played 12 games and we got to do that,” Sullivan said. “For the younger guys, they got a taste of the playoffs and a lot of experience. We now know the competition we need to be able to play against. We need to step up our game in the offseason and prepare for that.

“Overall, it was a great season. We did a lot of things – had a winning record, made it to the second round of the playoffs – a lot of positives to end the year on. Now we just need to focus and stay positive and try to build off that.”
